Dr. Jan Räker LL.M. (Montreal)

Jan Räker, LL.M. studied law at the Uni­versity of Co­logne, spe­cial­iz­ing in pub­lic law and sports law. He sub­sequently ob­tained his doc­tor­ate in Co­logne. He also ob­tained a Mas­ter of Law in sports law from Mc­Gill Law School in Montreal (Canada).

Dr. Räker joined our team in Decem­ber 2011 and has been full-time Seni­or Gen­er­al Coun­sel in the Leg­al and Com­pli­ance de­part­ment at VfB Stut­tgart since 2014. There, he is com­pre­hens­ively re­spons­ible for all leg­al is­sues from all areas of the club's activ­it­ies, in­clud­ing trans­fers, com­pli­ance, data pro­tec­tion and in­vestor re­la­tions. He has also been a judge at the Court of Ar­bit­ra­tion for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne since 2014, where he is primar­ily ap­poin­ted in soc­cer-re­lated cases. Dr. Räker is also a mem­ber of the ed­it­or­i­al ad­vis­ory board of the sports law journ­al Spo­Prax.

In addition to the above-mentioned activ­it­ies, Dr. Räker is re­spons­ible for our sports law de­part­ment in our law firm.

Previously, since April 2008, Dr. Räker worked as leg­al coun­sel at Ham­burger Sport-Ver­ein (HSV). At IST Düsseldorf, Dr. Räker suc­cess­fully com­pleted his stud­ies in "Foot­ball Man­age­ment". Today he works there as a lec­turer in the field of mar­ket­ing and law. From 2012 to 2015, Dr. Räker served as Sec­ret­ary Gen­er­al of the In­ter­na­tion­al Sports Law­yers Association (ISLA).
